Global ETF assets reach USD1,064bn
The global exchange-traded funds industry had 2,308 ETFs with 4,922 listings, assets of USD1,064.4bn, from 129 providers on 43 exchanges around the world in August, research by BlackRock shows.
The global ETF and exchange-traded products industry combined had 3,182 products with 6,361 listings, assets of USD1,199.3bn from 159 providers on 46 exchanges around the world.
The European ETF industry had 985 ETFs with 3,140 listings, assets of USD230.9bn, from 37 providers on 19 exchanges.
In August 2010, net new assets into European domiciled ETFs/ETPs totalled USD2.2bn. Equity ETFs/ETPs gathered USD1.2bn net inflows, of which USD0.6bn went into emerging markets equity ETFs/ETPs and USD0.6bn into European equity ETFs/ETPs.
Fixed income ETFs/ETPs saw net inflows of USD0.1bn, of which USD0.6bn went into corporate bond ETFs/ETPs while government bond ETFs/ETPs saw net outflows of USD0.9bn.
Commodity ETFs/ETPs saw net inflows of USD0.9bn, of which USD1.0bn went into precious metals ETFs/ETPs while agriculture ETFs/ETPs saw net outflows of USD0.2bn.
In August 2010, net new assets into European domiciled ETFs totalled USD1.6bn. iShares has received the largest net inflows with USD1.0bn, followed by db x-trackers with USD0.9bn net inflows, while Source Markets had the largest net outflows with USD0.5bn.
The US ETF industry had 871 ETFs, assets of USD715.7bn, from 30 providers on two exchanges.
In August 2010, US domiciled ETFs/ETPs experienced net outflows totalling USD1.9bn. Equity ETFs/ETPs saw USD6.9bn net outflows, of which USD11.6bn was from net redemptions of North American equity ETFs/ETPs while USD4.5bn went into emerging markets equity ETFs/ETPs.
Fixed income ETFs/ETPs saw net inflows of USD3.0bn, of which USD0.9bn went into high yield ETFs/ETPs and USD0.8bn into government bond ETFs/ETPs.
Commodity ETFs/ETPs experienced USD0.9bn net inflows, of which USD1.0bn went into precious metals ETFs/ETPs in August 2010.
In August 2010, US domiciled ETFs experienced net outflows totalling USD3.9bn. Vanguard gathered the largest net inflows with USD3.7bn, followed by ProShares with USD1.2bn net inflows, while State Street Global Advisors saw USD7.9bn net outflows in August 2010.
The Canadian ETF industry had 150 ETFs, assets of USD31.6bn, from four providers on one exchange.
The Asia Pacific ex-Japan ETF industry had 180 ETFs with 284 listings, and assets of USD48.2bn from 56 providers on 13 exchanges.
The Japanese ETF industry had 74 ETFs with 77 listings, and assets of USD24.3bn from six providers on two exchanges.
The Latin American ETF industry had 21 ETFs with 347 listings, and assets of USD11.9bn from three providers on three exchanges.
