Coutts appoints Arne Hassel as head of investments
Coutts has appointed Arne Hassel as head of investments, effective April 2014.
Based in London, Hassel will report to Ian Ewart, head of products, services and marketing.
Hassel will lead the international investment teams in Edinburgh, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, Singapore and Zurich.
Hassel has over 25 years’ investment experience, spanning senior roles in banks, asset management companies, hedge funds and pension funds. Most recently he was co-head multi-asset allocation at the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) in London, one of the UK’s largest pension schemes with assets around GBP40bn, where he was responsible for tactical asset allocation and advised the trustees on strategic asset allocation.
Prior to this, Hassel was head of global tactical asset allocation and multi-strategy at Millennium Global Investments. He also worked at Goldman Sachs Asset Management as head of global currency management and as head of the hedge fund strategies group in Europe and Asia.
Hassel will take over from Gayle Schumacher, currently head of investment office, who is appointed to a new role as managing director, future proposition design. Schumacher will leverage her investment expertise to support the international development and future delivery of Coutts’ investment and advice propositions.
Ewart says: “I am delighted to welcome Arne to Coutts. I am certain his experience and knowledge will be key to capitalising on the excellent foundations of our enhanced investment proposition, which we have built over the past three years, to better meet the evolving needs of our clients.
“I would like to acknowledge Gayle’s outstanding contribution to our money management over the years and am pleased she has agreed to work with me on this exciting agenda, which is the design of the future propositions for Coutts, as we continue to develop an exceptional service.”
