Chinese HNWIs largest group of successful UK Investor Visa applicants
Four in ten (38 per cent) of London & Capital’s Investor Visa cases are Chinese clients and the trend looks set to continue.
China is now the top country for immigrants to the UK for the first time ever.
Chinese investors formed the largest group of all successful applications, accounting for 32 per cent of all investor visas.
London & Capital reports that approximately 50 per cent of its Chinese investors are young entrepreneurs, with children, searching for good education options in the UK. The other half are university students who look to remain in the UK after graduating, but find attaining a work visa increasingly difficult, so instead look to an investor visa.
Clients typically invest in high quality UK corporate bonds (due to the investment requirements of an investor visa) and large British brands, such as British Airways and Tesco seem to be some of the most attractive options for Chinese investors currently.
Cindy Lim, associate director of the international wealth & immigration (China) at London & Capital, says: “The vast majority of our Chinese investors are young entrepreneurs and tend to have experience running their own business in China before looking to start up in the UK. This can often be in a different sector than their existing business, for example, we have recently seen a leather goods company owner moving to the UK to set up a luxury hotel business. Chinese investors have a love affair with British luxury brands, and over the past few years, demand has continued to grow along with China’s expanding middle class.”
In response to the increased demand, London & Capital has expanded its offering to help international families make a successful transition to the UK. Partnering with some of the leading immigration lawyers and international bankers, the International Wealth & Immigration (IWI) China services available include:
· Immigration advice
· UK custody for Investor Visa
· UK Investment management for Investor Visa

Lim, adds: “Chinese clients have many considerations to think about when relocating to the UK, including schooling, property, wealth management, business, legal impacts etc. We have designed our bespoke service to create a seamless process for Chinese clients coming to invest in the UK with a clear understanding of their situation and the experience to assist in their relocation.”
