UK’s recent strength boosts mid cap valuations
The Russell UK Mid 150 Index returned nearly five per cent year-to-date and nearly 13 per cent since its 20 September 2013 inception to date as of 25 February, according to Russell Indexes.
Ronnie Sabel, senior portfolio manager, European equities with Russell Investments Europe, says: “UK mid cap stocks have performed very strongly in recent months as the UK economy strengthened. As a result, valuations of UK mid cap stocks have generally increased, but we continue to find potentially attractive investment opportunities in UK mid caps.”
This new Index, introduced by Russell late last year, was developed in close collaboration with key investments banks to help meet the needs of investors seeking higher capacity, lower-cost exposure to the UK mid-cap market and its performance since inception has reflected a strong period for UK mid-cap equities.
Gareth Parker, senior index research director with Russell Investments Europe, says: “We developed the Russell UK Mid 150 Index in late 2013 to provide investors with quicker, easier access to a comprehensive representation of the UK mid-cap market."
The index provides a representation of the UK mid-cap market comprised of 150 stocks from across the mid-cap universe which are listed on UK stock exchanges and denominated in sterling.
