Barings appoints Jean-Louis Scandella as head of equities
Baring Asset Management has appointed Jean-Louis Scandella as head of equities.
Scandella, who will be based in London, will take up his new position on 2 June.
Scandella will report to Marino Valensise, chief investment officer. He will lead Barings’ equity teams, based in London and Hong Kong and will also serve as a member of the investment committee and chair of the global sector teams.
Scandella joins Barings from the French equity boutique Comgest, where he was part of the firm’s leadership team. Comgest offers a similar product suite to Barings, with its assets split between emerging and developed equity markets.
Valensise says: “We are pleased to welcome Jean-Louis to Barings. He has a deep knowledge of equity investing, with experiences both as a business leader and as a fund manager. He brings with him a strong bottom up driven investment philosophy and a successful track record in managing emerging market equities achieved through a disciplined approach to ‘quality growth’, a style very similar to Barings’ GARP (Growth At Reasonable Price).”
Barings has GBP35.4bn of AUM of which GBP11.2bn in equities as at 31 March 2014.
