McCarthy Denning adds private client specialist

Following the launch of its formal association with Singapore firm, ArrowGates, McCarthy Denning has added to its South East and North Asia team with the addition of new partner and private client specialist, Zac Lucas.

Prior to joining McCarthy Denning, Lucas spent some time in-house at a FinTech start-up, and before that he was a partner in Gowling WLG’s Singapore office for five years, where he founded and headed their regional private capital practice.

Lucas, who was also a former partner at leading offshore firms Ogier and Harneys, has an impressive track record with over 15 years of wide-ranging expertise in international private client law. This includes developing, and advising clients on the use of, innovative trust structures, as well as on compliance and disclosure-related matters. Lucas' extensive work with private wealth advisers and family offices in the South East and North Asia regions offers exciting opportunities for McCarthy Denning. Lucas will play an integral role in developing collaborative opportunities in the private wealth arena with ArrowGates and its network of associated law and accountancy firms in the region.
To best serve his international client base of high-net-worth individuals, families and financial institutions, Lucas will predominantly divide his time between the UK and Asia, but also plans to travel regularly to the Middle East. With his growing interest in the Middle Eastern market, Zac will also work closely with McCarthy Denning’s other partners who are focused on that region, to further expand his practice.
Lucas' professional achievements are widely recognised:  he has been ranked Tier 1 in the Legal 500, he is a full STEP member, and he was also past chair of Singapore Business Families Special Interest Group and of the BVI STEP Law Reform Committee. Lucas also lectures on compliance and disclosure matters and is a co-founder and consulting in-house counsel of Centenal, a legal technology company founded in 2017 to provide compliance-related technology.
Warren Wooldridge, CEO of McCarthy Denning, says: “We are very excited to welcome Zac to the firm. He is a great addition to our private client team and in many ways is the epitome of a McCarthy Denning lawyer with huge amounts of experience at the highest levels, a partnership background with leading law firms, active in his field of expertise, and an international focus. Zac is very outcome-orientated and, like many of his new colleagues, also brings an entrepreneurial gloss to a formidable technical prowess.
“The timing of his arrival, coinciding as it does with the launch of our formal association with ArrowGates in Singapore, couldn’t be better. Zac has spent a considerable amount of time based in Singapore and Bangkok and plans to continue to split his time between London and the region. Since arriving at McCarthy Denning, he has hit the ground running and is already undertaking a series of talks and meetings with banks, accountancy firms, family offices and others in South East and North Asia, Covid-19 notwithstanding.”
Lucas says: “I am delighted to have found a new home at McCarthy Denning. The flexibility and freedom that McCarthy Denning affords me (especially with regards to charging structures) is refreshing and will appeal to my clients. It’s also very exciting to be surrounded by such a great bunch of exceptional lawyers – highly professional and real experts in their fields, but also really nice to deal with.”
