Harbottle & Lewis appoints immigration partner

Harbottle & Lewis has appointed Sarah Gogan as a partner to head up the firm's immigration practice and further strengthen its Private Capital expertise.

Gogan brings with her over 20 years’ experience across a broad spectrum of UK immigration matters and is widely regarded in the industry as one of the most pre-eminent and leading specialists in all aspects of personal immigration law, nationality, asylum and human rights law.

Gogan has acted for a wide range of clients, both domestically and internationally, including household names and personalities in the global entertainment industry, ultra-high and high net worth individuals, along with professionals and international families. She also advises businesses and leaders of businesses.

Gogan has particular experience in contentious litigation cases, including advising high profile individuals facing challenging circumstances and requiring international protection. She has acted for a number of high-profile figures (including politically exposed persons, well known business people and their families) in respect of applications for political asylum, and has been at the forefront of globally significant cases in this area.

In addition, Gogan acts for clients on a broad range of appeals to the immigration tribunal and higher courts, including judicial review.

She is ranked top in her field in Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners (HNW), and is recognised as a “Distinguished Individual” in Spears 500.  She is also a member of the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association.

Glen Atchison, Managing Partner, Harbottle & Lewis, says: “We continue to develop and strengthen our market-leading Private Capital offering, and Sarah is an excellent addition to this stellar team, the firm and most importantly our clients.

“Her innovative and strategic approach, successful track-record and outstanding reputation built on dealing with some of the most exceptional cases in immigration law, including for high profile and wealthy individuals facing significant challenges in their countries of origin, further reinforces the breadth and depth of expertise we are able to offer our clients.”

Gogan says: “Private individuals are increasingly internationally mobile and have complex needs regarding nationality and domicile which require specialist advice, political sensitivity and empathy. With challenging situations, which may involve international protection, the wellbeing of the individual, their family and business interests are paramount and a tailored, inter-disciplinary approach which mitigates risk and delivers peace of mind is vital.

“Harbottle & Lewis is widely and well recognised for its private client specialism which is complementary to my practice and approach and I look forward to working with the team to develop solutions for our clients.”
