The President of the United States, Donald Trump, promised this Wednesday, the 10th, “great security” for oil tankers crossing the Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran tightened control over the maritime route amid the war against Americans and Israelis.
“I think you will see a lot of security and this will happen very, very quickly,” Trump told reporters at the White House, when asked how he would ensure the security of Hormuz.
The American network CNN reported on Tuesday night that Iran had begun installing mines in the maritime lane. According to the president, American troops had “practically” removed all the mines “in a single night”.
On the 12th day of the conflict in the Middle East, at least three ships were attacked in Hormuz and the Persian Gulf. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed that vessels from Israel, the United States, and allies of both countries are “legitimate targets.”
Questioned about what the U.S. needs to do to end the military operation in Iran, Trump replied: “More of the same.”
“We will see how all of this ends. At the moment, they have lost the Navy, lost the Air Force. They have no anti-aircraft equipment, they have no radar,” said Trump. “Their leaders are gone and we could do much worse.”
The Republican stated that American troops could destroy Iran’s infrastructure “in an hour,” if they wanted. “We are leaving certain things that, if we eliminate them – or could eliminate them today, in an hour – they would literally never be able to rebuild this country,” he said.
One of the reporters also questioned Trump about the choice of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as the new Supreme Leader of Iran, but the Republican did not wish to comment on the matter.
