The initiative, however, faces resistance from Russia and China, which have veto power.

In a meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Thursday the 2nd, Bahrain requested that a resolution be put to a vote on Friday urging countries to use “all necessary means” to guarantee international transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

The initiative, however, faces resistance from Russia and China, which have veto power.

In the same session, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassim Albudaiwi, stated that Iran’s retaliatory attacks against neighboring countries “crossed all red lines” and argued that the six GCC member states should be included in any negotiations or agreements with Tehran on regional security.
