Musicians enter the studio on Thursday to record a new version of “Sueño con Serpientes,” a classic from Silvio’s repertoire that has previously been recorded by Milton Nascimento, in collaboration with Mercedes Sosa.
The singer and composer Chico Buarque returned to Cuba 34 years after his last visit to the Caribbean island. He landed on Tuesday in the country at the invitation of singer and composer Silvio Rodríguez, one of the leading figures of the so-called New Cuban Trova. According to a post on his Instagram account, “in the midst of the tightening of sanctions against the island and the worsening economic and energy crisis, the trip occurs as a demonstration of solidarity with the people of the country.”
Friends for more than five decades, the two musicians will enter the studio on Thursday to record a new version of “Sueño con Serpientes,” a classic from Silvio’s repertoire that has previously been recorded by Milton Nascimento, in collaboration with Mercedes Sosa.

According to the post, Chico Buarque’s visit reinforces the ties between two central figures of Latin American song, historically linked by aesthetic affinities and by political engagement across the continent.
Alongside his wife, the jurist Carol Proner, Chico also donated essential medicines to the Cuban Ministry of Health.
