Brazilian Mother and Daughter Killed in Israeli Attack in Lebanon

28 April 2026

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Monday evening, the 27th, the death of a Brazilian woman and an 11-year-old boy, mother and son, in an attack by the Israeli Defense Forces on Lebanon. In addition to the two, the father of the family, Lebanese by nationality, also died.

Another child of the couple, also Brazilian, is hospitalized, but the Itamaraty did not provide further details about his age or health status. The family was at home, in the town of Bint Jbeil, in southern Lebanon, at the time of the Israeli bombardment.

In an official statement, the ministry said the attack constitutes yet another violation of the ceasefire of the war that pits Israel and the United States against Iran and reminded that these violations have already resulted in the deaths of dozens of Lebanese civilians, including women and children, a female journalist, and two French soldiers with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The Itamaraty called for peace and condemned the attacks carried out during the ceasefire, whether by Israel or by the radical Shiite militia Hezbollah, as well as the demolitions of houses and other civilian structures carried out in Lebanon by Israeli forces.

The ministry also said it is in contact with the families of the deceased Brazilians to provide assistance, including for the hospitalized son.

In theory, Israel and Hezbollah are under a ceasefire, begun on April 17 and set to expire on Sunday the 26th, but it was extended for another three weeks, according to United States President Donald Trump. In practice, however, the two sides continue to attack each other.

A survey conducted by Agence France-Presse (AFP), based on data from Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, showed that at least 36 people had died in Israeli attacks since the start of the ceasefire.
