US to Mediate Israel-Lebanon Talks on May 14-15

9 May 2026

The United States will mediate two days of intensive talks between the governments of Israel and Lebanon on May 14 and 15, according to an official statement released on Friday, the 8th, by the State Department.

Based on the round of talks on April 23, both delegations will engage in detailed discussions aimed at advancing a comprehensive peace and security agreement that addresses the core concerns of both countries, the department said.

“The discussions will lay the groundwork for durable peace and security arrangements, the full restoration of Lebanese sovereignty across all of its territory, the delineation of borders, and the creation of concrete paths toward humanitarian relief and reconstruction in Lebanon,” the department added.

According to the American government, both sides have committed to approaching these talks with their national interests in mind, with the United States working to reconcile the ideas in a way that provides security for Israel and sovereignty and reconstruction for Lebanon.

The department also stressed that comprehensive peace depends on the full restoration of the authority of the Lebanese state and the disarmament of Hezbollah, a group designated by the United States as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.
