Iran Creates Mechanism to Manage Hormuz Strait on a Designated Route, Commission Leader Says

16 May 2026

The president of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, Ebrahim Azizi, wrote on his X profile that Iran has prepared a mechanism to manage traffic in the Strait of Hormuz along a designated route, which will be revealed soon.

According to Azizi, this occurs within the framework of the country’s national sovereignty and the guarantee of international trade security. In this process, only commercial vessels and parties that cooperate with Iran will benefit from it, he said.

“The necessary fees will be charged for the specialized services provided under this mechanism. This route will remain closed to operators of the so-called ‘freedom project’,” he stated.
