24 May 2026

The United States Secret Service placed the White House on maximum alert after shots were heard near the seat of the U.S. government this Saturday (23). Two people were shot, according to CNN.

Selina Wang, an ABC News reporter, was filming when the shots were heard. “They sounded like dozens of shots. They told us to run to the press briefing room, where we are now,” the journalist wrote on X.

The DW correspondent in Washington, Benjamin Alvarez, said, also in a post on X, that there is a “strong presence of the Secret Service, the police and the National Guard at the intersection of 17th Street with the H Street NW, right in front of the White House.”

The U.S. president, Donald Trump, was at the White House at the time of the shooting. Earlier, he said that he was working to finalize a deal with Iran.
