The spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that the negotiations aim to end the war, noting that the Strait of Hormuz remains under restrictions for hostile military ships and that the country seeks to create security mechanisms with Oman
The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baghaei, said that messages are being exchanged with the U.S., but that, for now, no final agreement has been reached yet. In comments on Friday, the 29th, he said that the negotiations are focused on ending the war and that nuclear issues are not being discussed in detail at this stage.
Baghaei declared that the Strait of Hormuz has been under Iran’s “special measures” since the start of the war and is closed to military vessels that are considered “hostile.” However, according to him, commercial ships have been transiting the route in coordination with Iranian authorities.
According to the spokesperson, Iran and Oman should establish mechanisms that preserve their interests and national security, as well as assure the international community that navigation through this route is conducted safely, amidst the stalemate in talks with Washington over control of the important maritime route.
The United States maintains that the area involves “international waters,” and, therefore, no one should gain control of the region.
