US Sanctions Turkish Institutions Over Ties With Iran; Bessent Promises New Actions

5 September 2026

The United States Department of the Treasury, through the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC, in English), sanctioned on Friday, the 4th, Turkish-based financial institutions under designations related to Iran.

The targets of the U.S. sanctions include Golden Global Yatirim Bankasi Anonim Sirketi, Golden Global Varlik Kiralama Anonim Sirketi and Golden Global Portfoy Yonetimi Anonim Sirketi.

In a morning interview on the program Real Americas Voice News, the United States Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, confirmed the new measures and warned that the U.S. is likely to sanction another bank next week. The measures are part of the “Economic Pariah Operation,” announced at the end of August to cut the financial lines that allegedly sustain the Iranian regime.
