ATHENS, Sept 5 (Reuters) – A Greek two-seat F-4 Phantom fighter jet crashed this Saturday during an air display at Tanagra airport, near Athens, a Greek Air Force official told Reuters.
Video images from the public broadcaster ERT, which was the first to report the accident, showed a column of black smoke rising several hundred meters from the spectators watching the air display. Two helicopters were fighting the fire at the scene.
The fate of the pilots was not known immediately, and it was not clear if anyone in the crowd had been injured, the official said.
The loudspeakers at the air base were asking people to leave the area, according to ERT.
