An Amazon cargo aircraft overran a runway after landing at Miami International Airport and struck several vehicles on Sunday afternoon.
The Boeing 767-300 freighter departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and landed at Miami International Airport around 2:00 PM, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.
The Miami Fire Department stated in a note that more than 60 units responded after a plane overran a runway and struck several vehicles.
“Units arrived and found an aircraft that had caught fire as a result of this accident, with intense flames and visible smoke,” said the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue in a statement. “Firefighters are working to extinguish the fire, and there are multiple casualties.”
There is currently no information on injuries.
Ground Stop at Miami Airport
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a total ground stop at 1:43 PM. According to local news network WSVN-TV ABC Miami, all departures from the airport were halted.
Miami International Airport issued the following statement:
Prime Air, flight 7598, overran the diagonal runway at Miami International Airport around 2:00 PM today, leaving the aircraft disabled in the far northwest corner of the airport.
All runways and taxiways at MIA are currently closed, and a full ground stop is in effect. Passengers with flights scheduled for today should check directly with their airline for flight status updates before heading to the airport.
