King Charles has authorized the sending of a letter to senior British officials reaffirming that his youngest son, Harry, and his wife, Meghan, remain members of the royal family without official duties after the couple’s return to the United Kingdom, according to reports by the BBC and other British outlets on Monday.
“In short, their position is similar to that of ordinary citizens with business and charitable interests,” the letter stated, according to the reports.
Buckingham Palace did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Prince Harry and his family returned to the United Kingdom at the end of last month, six years after they left royal duties and moved to the United States.
The couple had gone to the United States in 2020, renouncing official royal duties to pursue independent careers, but have never left the headlines, as Harry has accused the monarchy of neglect, the sensationalist press of ruining his life, and the government of not providing sufficient security for him to be able to return home.
