The sea view in Devon, in the southwest of England, a region known for its beaches and coastal landscapes, faced a $250 million obstacle. The Aviva superyacht, owned by British billionaire Joe Lewis, was anchored off the coast and angered tourists during the last local holiday.
The Aviva superyacht, belonging to the former owner of the Tottenham Hotspur football club, remained anchored in Plymouth Sound, facing areas such as Bovisands, Jennycliff and Staddon Heights, and began to occupy a significant portion of the tourists’ view, leading to widespread complaints.
The vessel measures 98.4 meters in length, which is roughly the length of a football pitch.
Sandra Hunter, 52, told The Independent that she often visits the area for its sea views. According to her, the yacht “really blocked” the landscape and would be more suitable for destinations such as Monaco.
A US$ 250 Million Home
The Aviva was built by the German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen and delivered in 2017. The vessel weighs about 5,000 tonnes and was designed by the firm Reymond Langton.
Among its most unusual features is a full-size padel court installed inside the yacht. The vessel also functions as Lewis’s floating residence and office and includes spaces for leisure and accommodation.
Forbes estimates Lewis’s fortune at about US$ 7 billion. The businessman built his wealth through investments and financial operations and was the principal owner of Tottenham Hotspur until 2022.
The Aviva is registered in the Cayman Islands.
