The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) denied on Wednesday (the 9th) that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had struck two U.S. Navy destroyers in the Middle East and stated that all Iranian attack attempts had failed.
In a post on X, CENTCOM described Tehran’s allegation as “completely false.” “No U.S. Navy warship was struck. All attacks attempted by the IRGC failed,” it said.
The military command added that American forces destroyed ten Iranian oil tankers in just the last week. According to CENTCOM, the vessels were part of a multibillion-dollar clandestine network used to fund the IRGC. “Iran cannot defend them,” it declared.
The IRGC had claimed to have struck two American ships and eight oil tankers in the Persian Gulf, in addition to ten other vessels attempting to cross a zone described as “prohibited and unsafe” in the Strait of Hormuz.
On Tuesday, the 8th, CENTCOM reported the destruction of five Iranian oil tankers and said that an American warship dodged two ballistic missile strikes in the two preceding days, with no casualties reported.
