The U.S. president, Donald Trump, again labeled concerns about artificial intelligence (AI) as a “farce” during a phone call conducted this Monday, the 14th, with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, a dialogue that took place on stage, before an audience in Los Angeles.
“Robots won’t take over,” Trump said, speaking at an event organized by the All-In podcast — a hub for many of Trump’s top technology allies.
“America is capable of leading and doing so securely,” Huang said.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, said that a White House meeting with executives from major AI companies could take place as early as later this week or early next week, amid growing pressure on Congress to establish safety guidelines for this expanding technology. “It will be soon,” Johnson told reporters. “I believe by the end of this week or the beginning of next. But we will wait to see,” he noted.
House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, for his part, called today for immediate action by Congress to regulate artificial intelligence — his most urgent appeal to date for safeguards for this rapidly evolving technology, amid warnings that it could wipe out humanity if not controlled.
“The explosive growth of artificial intelligence and the challenges it presents — this is not a farce,” Jeffries said at his weekly press briefing.
