The Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Márcio Elias Rosa, said that representatives of Brazil and the United States are expected to meet in person to discuss the tariff hike, in parallel with the G20 meeting in the United States.
The expectation is that the meeting will take place in Milwaukee, between September 30 and October 1. If it occurs, the meeting will be the first in-person gathering since the resumption of negotiations on the tariff measures.
“There is a G20 meeting from the 30th to the 1st, there in the United States. And the expectation, both ours and the USTR’s, is that we have an in-person meeting there. Minister Mauro Vieira and I will go and there we will have a meeting with Ambassador Greer,” said Elias Rosa at a ceremony at the Planalto Palace on Monday (14).
Between these days, the G20 Trade Ministers meeting will take place. According to the minister, Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira will accompany him during the meeting with the U.S. Trade Representative.
The United States resumed the 25% tariffs against Brazil following investigations into unfair trade practices under Section 301 of the U.S. Trade Act, as the country claims. The practices under investigation range from digital trade to illegal deforestation.
Since the first tariff hike, in April 2025, there have been more than 30 contacts, in-person, virtual or by phone, at presidential, ministerial, and technical levels, according to the Brazilian government.
