WASHINGTON, Sep 18 (Reuters) – The President of the United States, Donald Trump, on Friday banned from the White House the media outlets CNN, MS NOW and Politico, complaining about their coverage in a post on social media.
“With immediate effect, I am banning CNN, the MSNOW… and the Politico… from the White House due to their constant ‘FAKE NEWS’ reporting,” wrote Trump on Truth Social, adding that he intends to announce the names of other media outlets.
“Media outlets should not be able to write or report FICTION and LIES while covering the President of the United States, the Trump administration or the United States of America,” he said.
CNN, the MSNOW, Politico and the National Press Club, a Washington-based journalists association, did not respond to requests for comment.
Trump has repeatedly urged broadcasters to remove from air comedy or news programs that he dislikes or that have joked about or criticized him or his government.
The American president also asked the Federal Communications Commission to revoke the licenses of the outlets after criticizing newscasts and other programs.
