The Vatican released on Monday (the 21st) the full schedule for the visit that Pope Leo XIV will undertake in November to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru. In addition to the traditional meetings with the leaders of the local Catholic Churches and special Masses, the Holy Father will be hosted by Presidents Yamandú Orsi, Javier Milei, and Keiko Fujimori.

The Pope’s trip to South America will be a real marathon, with a series of events from November 6 to 16, according to the Vatican Bulletin.

Uruguay

Pope Leo XIV will arrive in Uruguay on Friday (6th), where he will stay until Sunday (8th), with engagements in Montevideo, Paysandú and Florida. The official program of the apostolic journey includes three days of “meetings with authorities, communities, educators and different realities of the country, and he will preside over celebrations and moments of prayer open to the participation of the people”.

The plan is that the Pope will arrive at Carrasco International Airport at 4:30 p.m. One hour later, there will be a welcome ceremony at Independence Square, the first public act of the Pontiff in South America.

Next, Leo XIV will visit President Orsi around 6:15 p.m. in a private meeting and will close the journey at the Metropolitan Cathedral with bishops, priests, deacons and religious.

On Saturday, he will also go in the morning to Paysandú, where at 10 a.m. he will celebrate Holy Mass at Parque Paris Londres. The schedule foresees a return to Montevideo, where in the late afternoon “he will have a meeting with the social reality of Casavalle, at the parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe,” as stated in the official communiqué.

Afterwards, he will visit the Catholic University of Uruguay and participate in a Vigil of Prayer at the Centenary Stadium. For this event, people may register to gain access to free admission.

For Sunday, November 8, a Mass at 10:30 a.m. is scheduled at Assembly Square, in front of the Florida Basilica Cathedral, as part of the National Pilgrimage to the Virgin of the Thirty-Three.

Regarding tickets for events and Masses, the Catholic Church reiterated that “they will be free and cannot be sold,” and that site registration “aims to organize and facilitate access to the different activities.”

The Pope will depart for Argentina at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Argentina

The Pope’s first visit to Argentina since John Paul II, in 1987, will take place yet on Sunday (8th), with a tribute in Buenos Aires to General José de San Martín in the square that bears his name.

Next, Leo XIV will proceed to the Casa Rosada, where he will have a meeting shortly before 6 p.m. with President Javier Milei. Later, at the Libertad Palace, he will meet with authorities, representatives of civil society and members of the diplomatic corps, and will deliver his first speech in the country.

At the end of the day, Leo XIV will head to the Apostolic Nunciature, on Alvear Avenue, where he will stay during his stay in Argentina.

On Monday (9) November, at 9:15 a.m., the Pontiff will visit the Little Cottolengo Dom Orione in Claypole, where he will meet with workers and people with disabilities served by the institution. According to La Nación, the visit had already been announced by the authorities and church officials during the trip preparations. It is expected that in this meeting — which will be a strong message to the government due to the heavy cuts in this area — the Pope will offer some words of greeting.

At 11:30, a Mass is scheduled at the Monument to the Spaniards, in Palermo, where John Paul II was in 1982 on his first visit to the country, shortly after the Falklands War.

In the afternoon, the Pope will meet with businessmen, union leaders and representatives of social movements in the auditorium of the Argentine Catholic University, in Puerto Madero.

The schedule will continue with a 5:30 p.m. meeting with leaders of the various Christian communities and the various religious traditions at the San Martín Palace, where he will deliver another speech. In the late afternoon, Leo XIV will be at the Metropolitan Cathedral with the Argentine episcopate and the synodal teams, in an event that will include a homily by the Holy Father.

The marathon will continue on Tuesday (11/10), with the Pope traveling to Córdoba, where at 10 a.m. he will celebrate his second large Mass on the esplanade of the Military Aviation School. Afterwards, he will meet with bishops, priests, deacons, religious, seminarians and pastoral workers at the local cathedral.

The Pope is expected to return to Buenos Aires at the end of the afternoon, where, at 8:15 p.m., he will lead a prayer vigil with hundreds of thousands of young people at the Monument to the Spaniards, the same outdoor site as the previous day’s Mass.

On Wednesday (11), he will finally fulfill an unfulfilled wish of his Argentine predecessor, Pope Francis, by presiding over Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Luján, which will begin at 10 a.m. According to La Nación, it is expected that between 1 million and 2 million faithful will be in the city.

But before this anticipated Mass, the Pope will visit in the morning the Federal Penitentiary Complex of Buenos Aires.

The Pope will board for Peru at 1:30 p.m. on the 11th, after a farewell ceremony at Ezeiza Airport.

Peru

Pope Leo XIV will be welcomed in Lima at the Callao Naval Air Base, from where he will depart for a meeting still on Wednesday with President Keiko Fujimori. Later, he will have a meeting with authorities and the diplomatic corps at the National Grand Theater.

On Thursday (12), according to the schedule, he will participate in the capital in a vigil with young people at the Monumental Stadium and in meetings with the clergy at the Cathedral of Lima.

On Friday (13), the Holy Father will begin to head north of the country. In Chiclayo, he will celebrate a large Mass on the Pampas de Pimentel esplanade, and will hold meetings with ecclesiastical leaders and those from the university sector, in addition to visiting the São Óscar A. Romero chapel.

The following day, Saturday (14), activities will continue in the Lambayeque region with the coronation rite of the Immaculate Virgin at the Cathedral of Santa Maria and a liturgy in Santa Cruz de Succhabamba. In the afternoon, Pope Leo XIV will lead a prayer gathering with the Catholic community to close the Jubilee Year of Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo.

On Sunday (15), the Pope will arrive in Cusco for a meeting at the National Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuamán, followed by the traditional Angelus prayer in front of the Basilica Cathedral.

Hours later, in Pucallpa, he will meet with missionaries and delegations of Amazonian peoples at the Malecón Puerto Callao, before concluding his schedule with a Mass at the Regional Sports Village of Ucayali.

On Monday (16), he will visit the home of the Little Sisters of the Abandoned Elderly. He will celebrate the final Mass of his trip at Las Palmas Air Base, in Lima, before his farewell ceremony en route to Rome.
