Milei Calls the UN ‘Useless’ in Speech, Reiterates that Falkland Islands Belong to Argentina

The President of Argentina, Javier Milei, attacked the role of the United Nations (UN) in a speech at the General Assembly, labeling the organization as “useless” and unable to face the geopolitical deadlocks that mark the global landscape. “The UN has become a useless organization that only serves to feed a caste of parasites disguised as well-intentioned bureaucrats,” Milei said in New York.

He also reiterated his defense of Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland Islands and urged the United Kingdom to resume negotiations.

According to the president, the issue is a “national cause” and the British presence on the archipelago would have no basis in international law.

“The principle of self-determination does not apply in this case, since the British population was installed by the occupying power in a territory whose sovereignty is disputed. This principle exists to liberate colonized peoples,” he said. “We call on the United Kingdom to resume negotiations in order to find a peaceful solution to the sovereignty dispute, in accordance with international law.””
