Trump Opposes AI Integration with China

27 September 2026

WASHINGTON, Sept 26 (Reuters) – The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated on Saturday that, despite the “long conversation” this week with Chinese President Xi Jinping about AI, the U.S. should not join forces with China in this technological arena.

“We had a long conversation about AI,” Trump told reporters at the White House, using the term of his choice: “superintelligence.”

“What they want is to block our progress, because we are far ahead of China, and we will maintain that advantage. We did not spend much time discussing this matter,” he added.

Trump said he did not want to “integrate” AI initiatives with China due to the United States’ dominance.

“I’d rather not integrate because we are far ahead,” he said, adding: “When you are in the lead, you do not leave space for the other.”
