Musk: SpaceXAI Renamed to SpaceXSI After Trump Adopts ‘Superintelligence’

5 October 2026

The CEO of SpaceX, Elon Musk, stated this Sunday (4) that he intends to rename the company’s artificial intelligence unit, SpaceXAI, to SpaceXSI, in reference to the term “superintelligence,” adopted by United States President Donald Trump.

“Yes, we will make this change,” Musk replied on X to a user who asked whether the company could adopt the new name.

Trump has been pressing for the use of superintelligence in place of artificial intelligence (AI). In a speech last month to the United Nations General Assembly, the president stated that U.S. official documents should abandon the term “AI.”

“From now on, all United States documents, and, I hope, those of the world, will be changed to use the much more precise term “super,” in opposition to “artificial.” Therefore, it is superintelligence,” he declared.

The change comes after Musk participated, alongside executives from other major technology companies, in a voluntary agreement reached with the Trump administration to broaden controls and audits on AI systems. The pact provides internal oversight mechanisms, independent external audits, and committees on the boards of companies to assess risks.

Trump has argued that the U.S. should accelerate the development of the technology and has avoided backing restrictions that, in his view, could weaken American leadership in the contest with China.
