Milei Congratulates Flavio, Sees Opportunity to Strengthen Brazil-Argentina Ties

The leadership of Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) in the first round of the Brazilian presidential elections echoed in Argentina and prompted demonstrations of support from members of Javier Milei’s government.

In a post on social media, the Argentine president congratulated the candidate and said he hoped for closer ties between the two countries should the senator win the race.

“I hope that soon we can begin to work together so that Argentina and Brazil continue to be great commercial, cultural, and political partners,” Milei wrote, adding that the opportunities for the two nations “are infinite.”

Allies of the Argentine government followed the same line. The ruling Senate leader, Patricia Bullrich, stated that “all winds are blowing in the same direction in Latin America” and characterized the moment as a historic opportunity to expand trade, investments, and regional integration.

Other members of the Milei administration, such as adviser Santiago Caputo and secretary Daniel Scioli, also celebrated Flávio Bolsonaro’s performance in the race.

On the opposition side, leaders allied with Peronism reinforced support for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for the second round.

Deputy Victoria Tolosa Paz, who followed the tally alongside allies of the Brazilian president, declared: “We are back here to accompany Lula in this new challenge, with the same hope and the same conviction.”

Meanwhile, socialist deputy Esteban Paulón said that “tomorrow begins another campaign, another election,” while advocating mobilization in favor of Lula in the coming weeks.
