An ex-member of the Russian Armed Forces, convicted of drug trafficking and document forgery, was arrested in Salvador this Saturday (10). According to the Federal Police (PF), he was considered a fugitive from Brazilian justice and had an arrest warrant issued by the Supreme Federal Court (STF). The man was also sentenced to life imprisonment in Russia.
The arrest was carried out by the Integrated Force for Combating Organized Crime in Bahia (FICCO/BA), in conjunction with the Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE) of the Bahia Military Police and the International Cooperation Nucleus of the Federal Police in the state.
According to the PF, the operation began after Interpol alerted FICCO/BA. From there, the agents conducted surveys to locate the man and identified that he was hiding in an area between the neighborhoods of Cajazeiras and Águas Claras, in Salvador, described by the police as a region under strong influence of a criminal faction.
The capture is part of Operation Artemis, an initiative aimed at locating and arresting fugitives from justice. After being detained, the Russian was taken to the Regional Superintendency of the Federal Police in Bahia, where procedures were carried out to enforce the court order and extradition.
