Elon Musk Donated $276 Million to Pro-Republican Groups in U.S. Elections

14 October 2026

The businessman Elon Musk has already allocated US$ 276 million to organizations supporting Republican candidates in the United States’ midterm elections, scheduled for November 3.

According to The New York Times, the owner of Tesla and SpaceX has become the largest individual donor in the current election cycle. The transfers have been made since July. In total, Musk has already spent US$ 366 million in the 2026 legislative elections, equivalent to about BRL 1.82 billion according to the conversion reported in the article.

The main destination of the resources was the Republican Leadership Fund, which received US$ 158 million. The organization works to preserve the Republican majority in the House of Representatives, currently narrow.

Midterm elections renew all 435 seats in the House and one-third of the Senate, in addition to state governments and other local offices.

The volume of resources broadens the businessman’s participation in Republican electoral financing. In the 2024 presidential election, Musk had already disbursed about US$ 290 million in support of Donald Trump and other candidates from the party.

After the Republican victory, the billionaire joined the Trump administration for a period, before leaving the administration.

With the new contributions, Musk again takes on a prominent role in the Republican effort to maintain control of Congress in the second half of Trump’s term.
