Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will undertake an official visit to Iran this Monday, the 19th, to discuss the crisis in the Persian Gulf and broaden bilateral cooperation, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday. In Tehran, Lavrov will be received by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and he will meet with his counterpart Abbas Araghchi.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the foreign ministers will discuss ways to overcome the regional crisis, which Moscow attributes to the “illegal aggression of the United States and Israel against Iran.” The ministry stated that the conflict jeopardizes stability and security not only in the Middle East but also globally.
Negotiations will also address strengthening commercial, economic and investment cooperation, as well as the implementation of joint projects in the areas of transport, logistics and energy.
Lavrov and Araghchi will also assess the progress of the agreements reached between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Pezeshkian in meetings held in September, in Bishkek, and October, in Avaza. This will be the fourth face-to-face meeting between the two foreign ministers in 2026, in addition to 14 telephone conversations.
