U.S. President Says, Without Evidence, That the Election “Seems More Like a Fraudulent Election,” but Highlights His Relationship with the Reelected Lula da Silva

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, commented on Monday (26) on the result of the Brazilian presidential election and raised suspicions about the electoral process, without presenting evidence.

“I didn’t take sides, but it seemed more like a fraudulent election,” he told reporters, according to Reuters. “It looked very bad to me.”

Despite the criticism, the American president made a positive comment about the Workers’ Party (PT) candidate and highlighted his relationship with the Brazilian leader. “I like Lula, I get along with him,” he said.

Questioned by a reporter whether he planned to take any action regarding Brazil, Trump replied: “I am not running in Brazil. I am running in the United States,” he said.

The statements come one day after Lula’s victory in the runoff was confirmed. As of now, the U.S. government has not issued an official statement recognizing the outcome of the Brazilian election.
