Argentine Minister Defends Free Trade, Criticizes Environmental Barriers at the G20

1 November 2026

The Argentine Foreign Minister, Pablo Quirno, posted on the X social network a summary of the closing of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Atlanta, United States, in which he defended free trade and rejected protectionist measures.

The diplomat stated that countries that comply with competition rules cannot be harmed by competitors who use “artificially created advantages” or market distortions.

Quirno reiterated that, under President Javier Milei’s administration, Argentina has been working to reduce trade barriers, advance deregulation, and reposition the private sector as the engine of growth.

The minister rejected the use of environmental regulations as “barriers to trade” that raise the cost of transporting goods and criticized forced labor, stating that no country should obtain economic advantages through the exploitation of workers.
