The government of Brazil carried out on Wednesday (31) yet another humanitarian reception operation for Brazilians repatriated from the United States. The flight, with 124 people on board, landed around 8:00 p.m. at Belo Horizonte International Airport, in Confins (MG), according to information released by the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship (MDHC).
Since the beginning of the year, the “Here is Brazil” program has already carried out 37 operations, ensuring the return of more than 3,000 Brazilians in vulnerable situations. It is almost double the 1,600 repatriations of 2024
The Brazilians received by the Brazilian government predominantly come from the United States, according to the ministry.
Mass deportations were one of the campaign promises of United States President Donald Trump, with repercussions also for Brazilians, who had been watching the growth of such measures over the past years.
In the case of the latest repatriation, after the initial reception at the airport, part of the group was directed to the hotel that houses the special reception facility, where the repatriates received meals, hygiene kits, psychosocial support, medical and psychological follow-up, as well as guidance and assistance for the travel to their cities of origin.
According to the ministry, those who already had family members on site or opted to continue traveling directly were also welcomed at the airport itself. In addition, three people were detained by the Federal Police (PF) – The Ministry did not specify the reasons.
In total, in the most recent operation, 108 unaccompanied men, plus 15 unaccompanied women were repatriated. There was also one man sought by justice, totaling 124 people.
The largest group is aged 40 to 49, with 50 people, followed by the 18 to 29 age group, which includes 35 individuals, and the 30 to 39 group, with 24 people. The older age brackets appear less prominently. There were no records of children or adolescents.
“Here is Brazil” is a humanitarian reception program coordinated by the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship in partnership with other federal agencies, such as the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MRE), Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger (MDS), Health (MS) and Justice and Public Security (MJSP).
