The government of Javier Milei officially spoke out on Tuesday (27) regarding the reelection of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), confirmed after the victory over Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) in the runoff.
“The electoral result of Brazil has been noted,” says the brief note issued by presidential spokesperson Adrián Ravier, issued during a press conference at the Casa Rosada.
Asked about Milei’s silence regarding Lula’s victory, which had occurred two days earlier, Ravier explained that Lula had not congratulated the Argentine president after his victory in 2023.
“When Javier Milei was elected, in 2023, there was no gesture from President Lula to personally greet him, or anything at all. For now, there is no statement that we intend to release,” he argued.
Despite the statement by the Argentine spokesperson, Lula posted a message on the X social network on November 19, 2023, stating that “democracy is the voice of the people” and wishing “good luck and success to the new government” elected in the neighboring country.
Asked about the lack of a statement regarding Lula’s victory in the ballots after the defeat to Milei’s ally, the spokesperson limited himself to noting that “for Milei, the two peoples and trade are much more important than the ideological differences between the two presidents.”
“On the Argentine side, diplomacy continues, trade relations continue, and we do not expect any of this to change,” he repeated when asked again about the official silence, including that of the Foreign Ministry.
“On the Argentine side, diplomacy continues, trade relations continue, and we do not expect any of this to change,” he repeated when he was again questioned about the official silence, including the Foreign Ministry. “The president is not hypocritical. It is evident that there are ideological differences between the two presidents, and that is real,” he added.
