A Brazilian immigrant is facing charges of stabbing his ex-wife, also Brazilian, to death in Farmingville, a suburb of Long Island, in the state of New York. The Suffolk County Police Department said that Marcos Marques-Leal, 57, fatally stabbed Adriana Barbosa, 46, on Thursday night (the 12th) in a domestic incident.

An adolescent was also injured and was taken to a local hospital, but is not at risk of death, according to authorities.

Detectives from the Homicide Division charged Leal with second-degree murder, first-degree criminal contempt, and endangering the welfare of a child.

The incident happened around 8:15 p.m., at a house on Granny Road. According to a local ABC affiliate, police said they responded to a domestic call at the home and found Adriana Barbosa, 46, with stab wounds. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Marques-Leal was also taken to the hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.

One of the family’s neighbors told the TV station that they were a kind family: a mother, a father with children and a dog. “Very, very shocked. I never had problems with him, very nice people… never had problems with him,” said a neighbor.
