Cargo Ship Transits Through the Strait of Hormuz Fall to a Single-Digit

25 September 2026

SINGAPORE, September 25 (Reuters) – The number of ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz fell on Thursday to nine, compared with 14 the day before, according to preliminary ship-tracking data released on Friday; levels also remained below the 10-day moving average, which is around 18.

Of the nine, eight ships departed and one entered, according to the data.

Some vessels may be navigating the waterways with their transponders turned off, and therefore are not counted in the tallies.

Of the eight departures, one was a large gas carrier in ballast and another a laden Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) carrying crude oil.

The remaining departures were by Panamax and Supramax oil tankers, of short and mid-range.

A Handymax dry-bulk carrier entered the strait.
