Championship Accident Leaves Sailor with Open Fractures

15 February 2026

The Sunday stage of the SailGP in Auckland, New Zealand, was marked by a serious accident. The French boat ran over the host team’s boat in a surprising collision. In total, two people were injured, one of them with exposed fractures in the legs.

The incident occurred at the start of the day’s third race. In the clash between the boats, the French were pinned on top of the New Zealanders, causing structural damage to both vessels.

Louis Sinclair was rescued and, despite serious injuries to both legs, his condition is stable. A French female sailor also had to be treated by medical teams.

Nevertheless, the second stage went ahead as scheduled, with Australia taking first place, followed by Great Britain and Spain, respectively.

The Mubadala Brazil SailGP Team, the Brazilian team, ended their participation in 12th place overall.
