Chinese Minister Calls for Strict Governance of the Seabed and Outer Space

25 October 2026

XIONGAN, CHINA, Oct 23 (Reuters) — China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi defended on Friday a stronger governance of the seabed, polar regions and outer space in his opening remarks at the Global Governance Forum in Xiongan.

Wang stated that artificial intelligence must remain under human control and be used for the benefit of humanity.

Moreover, according to him, the rise of the Global South is the most significant change the world has witnessed since World War II. Wang urged greater representation of the Global South in international affairs.

The minister also reiterated that the multilateral trading system must be preserved.

The three-day forum, launched last year by President Xi Jinping, is a Beijing diplomatic initiative in favor of multilateralism and of a reformed and more equitable global governance system, as the country considers the current system deficient.
