India Deeply Concerned Over an Attack on Indian Ships in the Strait of Hormuz

18 April 2026

India said it summoned the Iranian envoy to New Delhi and signaled its ‘deep concern’ over the attack on two Indian-flagged ships attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday (18).

One of the vessels attacked was identified as the Sanmar Herald, a government source said.

The crew aboard the vessel and the ship were safe, the source said.

The senior official from India’s Ministry of External Affairs asked the Iranian ambassador to convey India’s point of view to the Iranian authorities and to resume as quickly as possible the process of facilitating the passage of ships bound for India through the Strait, the ministry said.

The ambassador said he would convey these views to the Iranian authorities, according to the statement.
