Iran in Financial Collapse, Urges Immediate Strait of Hormuz Reopening, Trump Says

22 April 2026

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated in a post on his social network, Truth Social, in the early hours of this Wednesday (22), that Iran is in financial collapse and wants the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for oil transit.

“Iran is in financial collapse! They want the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz — they are desperate for money! They are losing $500 million a day. Military personnel and police complain that they are not receiving their salaries. SOS!!!”, said the American president.

The previous day, Trump announced the extension of the ceasefire until a proposal is presented by Iranian authorities and discussions are concluded. However, he said he had ordered the Armed Forces to “continue the blockade and, in all other aspects, remain ready and able.” Trump has been using the blockade of Iranian ports as a means of pressuring the country for a deal.

According to the president, the ceasefire request was made by Marshal Asim Munir and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He also stated that the Iranian government was “seriously fragmented” and that suspending the attacks would give time for leaders and representatives to present a unified proposal.
