Iran Won’t Accept Some of Trump’s Red Lines

18 February 2026

The Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, said on Tuesday the 17th that, although some progress has been made in talks with Iran about its nuclear program, the Persian country is not willing to accept some of Donald Trump’s “red lines.”

“One thing about this morning’s negotiations is that—in a way, it went well. They agreed to meet again later, but on the other hand, it was very clear that the president has set some red lines that the Iranians are still not willing to truly acknowledge and work on,” Vance said in an interview with Fox News.

According to Vance, the U.S. will not allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon and Trump “has many opinions” about Tehran.

“We will continue to work on this, but clearly the president reserves the capacity to say when he thinks diplomacy has reached its end. We hope not to reach that point, but if we do, that will be the president’s decision,” he added.
