Amazon’s cloud operation in Bahrain was damaged after being struck by an Iranian attack on Wednesday, the 1st, according to the Financial Times. The attack comes one day after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards threatened to attack major American technology companies, such as Apple, Google and Meta, if more Iranian leaders are killed in “selective assassinations”.
According to Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior, civil defense teams were fighting a fire at the facilities, but did not detail which company was involved.
“From 8:00 PM Tehran time (1:30 PM Brasília time) on Wednesday, April 1, these companies will have their units destroyed in retaliation for each assassination carried out in Iran,” the guard said in a statement, in which it listed 18 companies it considers accomplices in the “selective assassinations” of authorities.
Amazon said on Monday, the 23rd, that the operation of Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company’s cloud computing platform, in Bahrain was “disrupted” amid the war in the Middle East. The information is from the Reuters news agency.
A spokesman for Amazon stated that the disruption occurred due to drone activity in the area. The company said it is supporting affected customers to help them migrate to other AWS operations.
