CAIRO, Oct 3 (Reuters) – An Israeli airstrike killed at least four Palestinians in an apartment building in Gaza City in the early hours of Saturday (local time), health authorities in the territory said.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli Armed Forces.
The United States mediated a ceasefire in the territory last year, but negotiators have not yet reached agreement on terms for disarming Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli troops.
Israel, which says Hamas has been rearming and launching attacks in violation of the October ceasefire, has intensified attacks against the group in recent weeks.
Hamas denied that it was trying to carry out attacks or rebuild its arsenal and accused Israel of undermining the Gaza peace deal.
Health authorities in Gaza said that at least 1,400 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli gunfire since the October ceasefire last year. Israel says four of its soldiers were killed by militants in Gaza in the same period.
