More than 4,300 flights were canceled between yesterday and today in the United States, after the passage of a cyclone brought heavy snowfall across a wide swath of the country, according to information from FlightAware, a company that tracks aviation and related data.
Of this total, 800 would depart from or arrive at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, located in the state of North Carolina, where there were records of extremely cold temperatures — near zero to the negative single digits.
“This is the coldest air mass seen since December 1989,” said Peter Mullinax, meteorologist at College Park, Maryland.
