The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Mark Rutte, stated on Wednesday, the 8th, that American President Donald Trump is “clearly disappointed” with the bloc’s allied countries, after alliance members refused to cooperate in the war against Iran.
The comments by Rutte were made after a meeting at the White House. “Some European countries were tested and did fail indeed, but a large majority of them, and that is what I discussed with Trump today, did what had been promised before in a case like this,” he said in an interview with CNN.
Rutte stated that he had a “frank and open” conversation with Trump, explaining to the American leader that European countries provided support with logistics and other commitments.
The head of NATO also said that the members of the military bloc do not view the war in Iran as illegal and that the majority agreed that it was important to degrade Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
