The newly created Iran Persian Gulf Strait Authority said in a post on X this Wednesday that there will be a ‘controlled maritime zone’ in the Strait of Hormuz.
The authority, which was created to administer the strait, defined the zone as ‘the line that connects Kuh-e Mobarak, in Iran, to the south of Fujairah, in the United Arab Emirates, on the east side of the strait, to the line connecting the end of Qeshm Island, in Iran, to Umm Al Quwain, in the United Arab Emirates, on the western side of the strait.’
It said that traffic through the area to cross the strait will require coordination and authorization from the authority.
