Police Search X Offices in France; Musk Summoned

3 February 2026

The police in France and Europol conducted searches at the offices of the social network X on Tuesday (the 3rd), and summoned entrepreneur and CEO Elon Musk to testify, the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office reported.

In addition to Musk, the authorities also summoned Linda Yaccarinom, ex-CEO of the company, to appear at a hearing on April 20, where both are expected to be questioned about suspicions of abuse of algorithms and the creation of tools that enable deepfakes, such as the use of Grok AI.

In July, Musk had already denied the accusations and described the French operation as “a politically motivated criminal investigation”.

In a message published on the X network, the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the ongoing diligences and said that it was abandoning the profile on the platform. “The cybercrime unit of the Paris Prosecutor’s Office is conducting searches at X’s French facilities, together with the National Cybersecurity Unit and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation, as part of the investigation opened in January 2025. The Paris prosecutor’s office is leaving X,” the excerpt says.

The inquiry opened by the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office investigates alleged ‘complicity’ by the platform in the dissemination of pornographic images of minors, sexually explicit deepfakes, denial of crimes against humanity and manipulation in data processing.
