Republican Senator Urges Trump to Formalize War Against Iran in Congress

4 April 2026

The Republican senator from Utah, John Curtis, said on Friday (the 3rd) that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, needs a formal declaration of war in Congress if he wants to secure further financing for military operations in Iran.

“I cannot support funding for new military operations without a formal declaration of war from Congress,” Curtis wrote on the social network X, noting, however, that he supports Trump’s actions ‘in defense of our national security interests in the Middle East.’

The senator also says that one must be realistic about American history and the Constitution.
